Happy Birthday to PP Noni Topacio who celebrates his birthday today, and belated birthday greetings to Treasurer Annie Tomas (Jan. 9)
Last week’s meeting was the first for 2012, and the first meeting for the second half of this Rotary Year. Our attendance was very good, and PP Pol Leoncio was the “early bird.” I was hoping PE Jojo Bacarro would preside over the meeting, since Pres. Nan was somewhat under the weather. At any rate, almost all participants in the program were present. We did not have a guest speaker but the salient matters discussed during our meeting was the coming selection of District Nominating Committee members at the breakfast meeting on Jan. 7, and that our club would submit our “Adoption of San Juan National High School” as a Significant Project to R.I. for this R.Y.
Congratulations to PP Pol Leoncio for being selected as a member of the District Nominating Committee, as one of two members representing our San Juan Zone. The DNC in turn will be responsible for selecting the District Governor Nominee Designate (after DGE Lirio Sandoval, DGN Louie Ticman). There are two contenders for the DGND position, both coming from the San Juan Zone, both are Charter Presidents, both are lady Rotarians, and both are Senior Deputy Governors for this Rotary Year. The candidates are: CP Marilou Co of San JuanDel Monte, and CP Maricris Pineda of San Juan Gems. We hope and pray the DNC selects the best candidate for the position.
Erratum on last week’s San Juan Observer article…PP Pol Leoncio was one of the birthday celebrants during our Dec. 08 Christmas Party (and not PP Joe Castro). My apologies to PP Pol
Cheers and enjoy RotaryJ
PP Jovie
