December 8, 2011

Random Thoughts…12082011

Our club’s Christmas Party was held on the rainy evening of December 8, at the Greenhills East Clubhouse, right next to the church of Sanctuario de San Jose. The day also marked the feast of the Immaculate Concepcion, a Catholic day of obligation. Getting to the venue was difficult, considering the usual traffic caused by the rains coupled with the heavy volume of vehicles by church goers. I opted to drive there after 7:00pm hoping that those who attended the 6:15pm mass would have left the area. But still the drive was slow and parking space scarce.

When I got to the party, most of the members were already there – all dressed in either red or green, depending on one’s group assignment. Baby Rotarian David Taningco was asked to lead the prayer before dinner, then the chafing dishes were opened and everyone had their fill of the sumptuous buffet, where the combination of dishes were meticulously chosen by our lady members. The men gravitated to the table where the bottle of Remy Martin cognac was being poured – it was a special bottle that was hand carried by FDG Benny Pe all the way from his house across the street.

At one part of the program, we honoured all birthday celebrants for December namely: PP Tito Mabanta, PDG Pepe Peralta, PP Pol Leoncio, IPP Gina Sanchez, ‘FDG’ Benny Pe, Rtn. Ompong Ordanez.

After dinner, there were group games, raffle prizes, line-dancing, the customary exchange of gifts, then karaoke singing. In one game, five male members were asked to cross-dress and wear long gowns with hats and a sash, for a mock beauty pageant, that was jokingly referred to as the “Miss Earth” pageant because the contestants were already “amoy lupa.”

Our weekly waiter from Club Filipino, Carl was also there present as our guest while Rtn. Bernard took pictures with his digital camera and posted all 200 photos in our club’s facebook page the next day.
Thanks to party chairman Therese for making it a fun and enjoyable Christmas Party.

Cheers and enjoy RotaryJ
