Secretary’s Corner_01242013

Our speaker last Thursday was Mr. John Silva of the Ortigas Foundation. His topic was, “The History of Photography in the Philippines.” He showed various rare photographs dating back to 1842. The highlight of his presentation was a photo taken of Jose Rizal’s Execution, a gem of a photograph indeed because it is the only photo taken during this momentous occasion. Towards the end of our speaker’s presentation, an aerial shot of the Finance Building in Manila and its surroundings taken during the 1960s drew a lot of reaction from the members. The picture showed how clean and beautiful Manila was back then compared to how it is now.

Photographs are still the best medium of preserving memories because a photo says a thousand words. Photographs are excellent heirlooms. So let’s keep taking pictures and preserve them for our next generation.

We have initiated proceedings for our club’s possible Sisterhood relations with the Rotary Club of Chungli East in Taipei, Taiwan. We will need the support of our Chinese speaking members, FDG Benny Pe and Rtn Hedy Huang in communicating with them. AG Rick Yu of RC Valenzuela East is facilitating this opportunity.

Today we discuss how to move forward with our donation to typhoon Pablo victims.

Cheers and enjoy Rotary J
